Comments: Maurice Utrillo was the son of the post-Impressionist painter Suzanne Valadon. Utrillo reveled in the street life of Montmartre, the famous center of bohemian life in Paris. Utrillo learned color’s symbolic and expressive potential from his mother.  The skewed perspective of this painting also indicates the artist’s interest in the Cubist experiments of artist like Pablo Picasso.
