Comments: In 1878 Monet moved to Vetheuil, the subject of Pommiers Vetheuil. This year would prove eventful for many reasons. At home, his wife Camille gave birth to their son, but this severely affected her health. She would die the next year. During this period in Vetheuil, Monet's art began to shift away from the modern aspects of city life and moved toward a more pure depiction of nature. Through his outdoor studies of the terrain, he captured the effects of natural light, shadow and atmosphere and created form through the juxtaposition of brushstrokes.
