The artist states: "Early on, my background was in painting and design, however, upon touching clay in my undergraduate program it was in immediate love affair, which I was sure would continue to flourish. I loved creating functional pots and would activate the surface with reduction glazes. Eventually, I became frustrated with these as I searched for more tonalities and turned to polychrome slips and maiolica. Upon researching pots of baroque and rococo crafts people, I was intrigued and influenced by their decadent, lush surface treatment. My own imagery began to pop off the surface of the vessels and soon the produce secion of the grocery store became an absolute paradise for objects to slip-cast In the past eight years I have used these fruits and vegetables to depict human relationships and emotions. Researching the various folklore and myths behind these objects yielded numerous metaphors from which to base my work.
