French painter and writer on art. After a brief flirtation with the post-impressionism of French painter Georges Seurat, Metzinger turned to cubism, becoming one of its most perceptive theoreticians. He collaborated with another French cubist painter, Albert Gleizes, on a book, Du Cubisme (On Cubism, 1912).
