Edward Bernstein is Professor of Art and Co-Head of Printmaking at Indiana University,  Bloomington. He also is the Director of the IU Summer Program in Printmaking and Artists Books at The Scuola Internazionale  di Grafica in Venice.

He received his MFA in printmaking from Indiana in 1973.  He studied with S.W. Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris, holds  a B.F.A, painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, and a B. A. Honors political science from Miami University, Ohio.  Bernstein has two regional NEA's and the Society of American Graphic Arts Award for Excellence.

He has taught and been visiting artist at, Oxford University (UK), UC Berkeley, SUNY Buffalo, University of Washington (Seattle), Southern Illinois University (Carbondale), Pyramid Atlantic (Maryland), University of Manitoba, Rhode Island School of Design Program in Rome, University of the West of England,) and  L'Accademia  delle Belle Arti di Venezia.   He continues to be a presenter at the annual Southern Graphics Association and Mid-American Print Council conferences, and chaired a panel at the International Printmaking Symposium in Cortona, Italy, Summer 2001.

Recent one person shows include: Anchor Graphics, October 2004, Galleria Sottoportico,Venice, June 2004; Anchor Graphics, Chicago, September 1999, N. Arizona University Art Museum,1996.  Recent juried shows include: "29th Bradley International Print and Drawing Exhibition, juror Karen Kunc, Peoria ,IL. 2003; Delta National Small Print Exhibitiion, juror Lynne Allen, Arkansas State University, 2003; 1st LUC Print Biennial, juror David Jones Anchor Graphics, Loyola Univ. Chicago 2002; "15th Parksided National Small Print Exhibition, juror Warrington Colescott  & Fran Myers , 2002.

Important invited group shows include: "One Language Two Cultures",10 British and 10 US invited printmakers portfolio and  exhibition curated by Justin Digglie, University of Utah for the Southern Graphics Council National Conference, Boston, 2003;" Fusion /Fission," 12 invited artists curated by Cima Katz, University of Kansas for  Mid American Print Council Conference , University of Wyoming, Laramie, 2002;"Saints and Sinners," 25 invited international artists,  curated by Georgia Deal,  Corcoran School of Art: Cortona, Italy, 2001 , Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC , summer 2001,Temple University, Rome, Sept. 01, Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, November, 01,  Rutgers University, Feb.02, Loyola University, N. Orleans, March 02.

Collections include: Microsoft Corporation, University of Arizona Museum of Art, Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, Pushkin Museum, St. Petersberg, Ulster Museum, Belfast.

His work appears in the revised  "The Complete Printmaker" and "The Best of Printmaking", 1997.
